WHAT IS IPAMORELIN?
Ipamorelin is a pentapeptide with the formula Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2 that mimics ghrelin (GH) and acts as a growth hormone-releasing agent. It binds with the GH receptor, referred to as the GH secretogogue receptor or GHSR, in the brain. The result is that it mimics the release of GH from the human pituitary gland and affects many body chemical processes. What makes ipamorelin different from other peptides is that it selectively triggers growth hormone production without the side effects of appetite stimulation and increases in cortisol and other compounds noted below.
Ipamorelin has been shown to have a high degree of safety and tolerance for humans in clinical trials.
Some of the positive effects of ipamorelin include:
- Increases in bone mineral content
- Increased collagen production, cellular repair, and regeneration
- More lean muscle mass
- Decreases in body fat
- Better sleep patterns
- Decreased cortisol, prolactin, acetylcholine, and aldosterone releases
- Increased IGF-1
- Less appetite stimulation than GHRP-6
The value to our patients is that ipamorelin offers the benefit of a growth-specific hormone without stimulating the pituitary gland to secrete cortisol and other compounds. This allows us to use it as a treatment with very few adverse side effects. By avoiding the production of cortisol, patients have noted an absence of symptoms seen in other GHSR treatments including cold sweats, jitters, or nervousness.
